Week 30 of the North Caledonian Season seen us play against Thurso FC in the reverse fixture following last weekends game, played at Dalmore Park in Alness due to home pitch conditions.

Before the game we invited the regular junior supporters of the first team to join into the Warm Up routine with the Match day squad players, photos below. Everyone involved enjoyed the change and bringing together of the Junior & Senior Team.

Unfortunately today was a day to forget for the team, after winning against the same opponents the week before. We created multiple chances throughout but also conceded soft goals in the game that were avoidable. We scored 3 goals which would normally have secured the game compared to other results in the season.

The game started and it was Bonar who had the majority of possession and chances inside the first 25 minutes. Good feet and skill from Alex Mackenzie allowed the other forward players to come into the game, but a number of chances were missed to get the opening goal in the game. On the 29th minute against the run of play Thurso managed to find a way through a long ball over the top. Poor communication from the Bonar Defense eventually led to the Thurso attacker being brought down in the box awarding a penalty. Bobby Gunn put the penalty away giving the lead to the visitors. 0-1.

Thurso then looked hungier for their second, and got this shortly after on the 35th minute through Bobby Gunn again after a neat ball cut through the Bonar defense.

Bonar now had an uphill task to try and get back into the game, and almost straight from kick off they got that. A long free kick found Archie Ryder on the 38th minute in the box with a looping header over the keeper. The first half finished with Bonar pushing to get an equalisier, but couldn’t find the back of the net as the half finished 1-2 to Thurso.

The second half started Thurso managed to restore their 2 goal lead early. Again through Bobby Gunn on the 52nd minute after finding himself free in the box finishing into the bottom Corner. It then went from bad to worse for the home side, after Bobby Gunn got his 4th of the game in the 58th minute after a long range looping shot found its way into the net to make it 1-4 to the visitors.

Bonar now had a serious up hill climb to try and get anything out of the game. The Final thirty minutes of the game was all the home side pushing to try and find a way into the game. Through good play from Jack Traynor finding Bruce Urquhart out wide, his low cross found the unfortunate foot of a Thurso defender and into the net to give Bonar a lifeline. 2-4 with 20 minutes to play.

Chances then came and went for the home side, before being awarded a free kick just outside the box on the 82nd minute. Alex Mackenzie stepped up for his 6th goal of the season and found the bottom corner to make it an interesting final 8 minutes or so. 3-4.

The game finished with heavy pressure from the Bonar attacks trying to find a way through the Thurso defense, but one couldn’t be found as the game finished 3-4 to the visitors. Thanks for the game Thurso, and good luck for the remainder of the season. A day to forget for Bonar, as we look on to our final two games of the season starting with Halkirk on the 20th.

Man of the Match for Bonar was Jack Corbett, continuing his good performances in recent weeks playing a part in pushing the team to try and get something out of the game.
