INVERGORDON FC 3 – 2 BONAR BRIDGE FC – NORTH CALEDONIAN LEAGUE

Week 19 of the North Caledonian Season seen us play away from home against Invergordon FC.

We came very close to causing an upset and leaving with a point, but really good teams find a way to win, and that is what Invergordon managed to do in the end. Grabbing the winner with only a couple minutes to spare.

1st half we had to defend for large periods as Invergordon had most of the play. They took an early lead through a James Ross Free Kick in the 7th min.

Invergordon then doubled their lead with Jordan Knight scoring in the 15th min. 2-0.

We started to find our feet in the game as the half went on and in 44th min we pulled a goal back. An absolute Screamer and ‘Goal of the Season’ contender from Jordan Hailes. 2-1 at half time.

The 2nd half started and back in the game, we came out energized and the Bonar Boys gave it a full go.

We started playing with real confidence, and created some really good chances, it was no surprise when Jack Corbett scored the equalizer with a powerful header in the 71st min.

It was now end to end football and although both teams had chances to put themselves in front, it was Invergordon’s Blair Morrison who got the all important winner in the 86th min.

Bonar’s 2nd half performance deserved a point, but it was Invergordon who got the all important goal to seal the game.

Fantastic effort all round. If we can keep playing like this, we will soon get our rewards

Well done to Invergordon FC and all the best for the remainder of the season. See you in the return game in the new year

Man of the Match for Bonar David Macgruer who both played well throughout the game.

BONAR BRIDGE FC 2 – 4 INVERNESS ATHLETIC FC NORTH CALEDONIAN FOOTBALL TIMES CUP SEMI FINAL

This week we faced Inverness Athletic FC in the semi-final of the Football Times Cup after successfully seeing off St Duthus FC in the Quarter Final. Having already played each other in the league, it was sure to be a good contest between both teams as the first whistle got us going.

It was the Inverness Side that struck the first blow for Bonar in the 8th Minute of the game with a long-range effort making it a deserved 1-0 lead as they started the game on top. Against the run of play, Bonar was awarded a clear penalty in the 15th minute but was unable to convert.

Inverness responded to the Bonar Miss making it 2-0 in the 18th minute with a long-range effort from Aiden Grant of Inverness, giving Bonar Keeper Ryan Renwick no chance as it headed for the top corner.

Before halftime, Bonar managed to bring one back through good footwork from Adam Mackay in the box as he dribbled past 2 players and finished well past the Inverness Keeper to make it 2-1 to the away side. Inverness again responded well, staying on top in the first half in the 33rd minute and making it 3-1 after being quickest to react to a rebound following an Inverness free kick on the halfway line. Bonar gave themselves at uphill battle at Half Time when it finished 3-1 with Inverness on top for the majority of the first half.

The Second half started with Bonar playing with much greater intensity, and the pressure prevailed early on in the 50th minute, as Bonar made it 3-2 with a Penalty converted by Adam Mackay for his second Goal of the game after great work by Archie Ryder to draw the foul in the box after a powerful run.

Bonar continued to stay on top in the second half having the better of chances, including some goal-mouth scrambles but were unable to find the equalizer.

Inverness sealed their win in the 79th minute after being awarded a penalty, which was calmly converted to make the game all but over at 4-2. Bonar continued to push in the game but never managed to make any of the attacks count as the game finished at 4-2 to the Inverness Team.

Bonar was very disappointed at full time with the Final Dream over this time round, but Inverness were on top in the first half and converted their chances well, with their 1st half performance making the 2nd half a real uphill battle for Bonar.

We wish Inverness Athletic all the best in the Final at the end of October. Next week we return in League action away to St Duthus FC as we look to return to winning ways.

North Caley Football Times Cup Semi Final

This Saturday we are at Home against Inverness Athletic FC in the Semi Final of the Football Times Cup.

Teas, Coffee’s & other refreshments are available before, throughout and after the game from the Clubhouse.

Raffle tickets are also available to purchase from the clubhouse before the Half Time Draw.

Hope to see as many supporters as possible at the game as we look to get to our First Final since returning to the North Caledonian League.

MATCH REPORT – BONAR BRIDGE FC 1 – 4 ORKNEY FC NORTH CALEDONIAN LEAGUE

This week, we continued in league action at Home to Orkney FC. The 1st Half was even, with both teams having goal-scoring opportunities but neither managed to capitalize as the first half ended 0-0.

The Second half started with Orkney on top from Kick Off. Bonar found themselves a goal behind 5 minutes into the second half with a long-range effort that deflected into the top corner, giving Bonar Bridge Goalkeeper Brandon Smith no chance.

Orkney continued to press in the second half and found themselves getting another goal shortly to make it 2-0. Aiden Stainke on the 63rd minute, through some good build-up play between Bruce Urquhart and Connor Ross, managed to Pull One back to make it 2-1.

Unlike Recent weeks Bonar struggled to find their form to get the comeback, being our worst own enemy at times, which Orkney capitalized on well in the closing stages of the game. Orkney then made it 3-1 in the 83rd minute when a low cross was tapped home at the back post. Bonar had a few chances late in the game, but Orkney secured their win in the 94th minute with the last kick to make it 4-1 and end our run of 3 games unbeaten.

Man of the Match for Bonar Bridge on the day was Connor Ross, who played well, creating a number of chances throughout.

Well done to Orkney; best of luck for the rest of the season and we will see you in the reverse fixture later in the season.

Next week we are at Home again to Inverness Athletic FC in the semi-final of the Football Times Cup, which will need an improved performance if we are to make the final.

This one of a kind Bonar Bridge commemorative 50th Anniversary design is one which will be introduced in various forms across all age groups over the coming weeks. However we thought the High School team, who have had to wait the longest for new kit, should get to show you first

We have been fortunate enough to receive a substantial contribution towards the cost of Primary and High School kits from Creich Community Council. Without which this wouldn’t have been possible so please join us in thanking them for supporting our local children.

BONAR BRIDGE FC FIRST TEAM MANAGEMENT ANNOUCEMENT

The Bonar Bridge Football Club Board are pleased to announce that our First Team management team will be strengthened with the addition of Bobby Breen and Robbie Breen.

Bobby, having played professionally at the highest level in South Africa and also coached extensively to the highest standards with a significantly successful record, will add a huge degree of knowledge and experience to our club. Bobby’s son Robbie has also played to a high standard in South Africa, with experience in USA, Australian and European leagues both as a player and a coach.

The Board are also delighted to confirm that our last seasons manager, previous first team Captain and Supporters player of the year Tommy McClenaghan who has always given great service to the Club will also remain part of the Management Team for the upcoming 2023/24 North Caledonian League Season.
